Welcome to sunny, southern California?!

One of the very best things about living just outside San Diego is the wonderful different weather experiences you can have...in one day!  You can literally drive to the beach and swim (you will freeze your a$$ off this time of year) then jump in the family truckster and head up to the mountains and play in the snow (actual deep stuff) and on the way home, come down the other side of the mountains and hit the desert.

Every once and a while we have to go do one of these things to remind us why we put up with the insane taxes, restrictions and basic B.S. that comes with living in the Golden State...guess where we went today?

Bring on the Lysol and the hand sanitizer...

Last month - brochitis for the other three members of my family...
This week...stuffy nose that turned into a double ear infection for the 5 year old, massive cold for the 11 year old who woke up this morning with pinkeye and now the hubby has a sore throat and is hacking up green stuff...what do you think my chances are of taking care of the three of them, locked up in the house this weekend with a major storm headed this way and me not getting sick?!  oh, and did I mention that the hubby will be possibly be traveling to tropical places for work next week.  Yeah, next week when the kids will be feeling better, the ground will be dry and I will feel like doggie doo...he will be gone...
So, heading to the library today to pick up some more books that I ordered, getting a 2 liter bottle of Dr. Pepper and updating the Netflix que for the monkeys...pray for us...

Narnia here I come

Yep, I'm going into my not quite walk-in-able, walk in closet...I would post pictures, but someone might think that the rest of my house looks like this (some areas, it's a close call...like my craft closet) and the next thing you know the production crew from "Hoarders" will be showing up at my door.

I have such dreams and aspirations to lead more of a Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware catalog kind of life...but alas, the trailer park budget (and my own style quirkiness) says a big, resounding NO WAY!  It just isn't going to happen.  So, off I go into the quagmire with empty grocery bags in hand for donation and trash collection...if I don't make it out - someone please feed my kids...

Take 2 ,or is it 3...

Smallest room in the house...biggest pain in the ass!!!!!
All we wanted was a new sink, one without a hole rusting thru it...and a new vanity, one that wasn't swirled cocoa cultured marble...and we have...

nada

So, I decided we should try to paint the cultured marble with a Rustoleum product that can't be bought in stores and has to be purchased online
of course I haven't received the email stating it has shipped
They are probably out of stock
: (

Also making it's contribution to my little party is the fact that the sink with the almost hole in it is round, hence the hole that it needs to fit...also round...most of the sinks availalbe for carry out...
oval
: (

I'm afraid to buy one online because they all give different kinds of info regarding their dimensions,
with my luck I'll buy on, get it and the effin thing won't fit...
ARGH!!!!!!
I just want to be able to wash my hands after I pee, in the same room that I pee'd in!!!!

Today I am going to go to Home Depot and Lowe's, look pathetic and hope that one of their folks with come over and help me.
If I act pitiful enough, I may get them to load it in my car.
Worked with the doors I bought
: )

Help me Obi Wan Kenobe...you're my only hope

Or better translated as "I  called my dad and asked him how to fix my DIWhine problem AND sent pictures...

He of course told me what I should do, because duh - he knows everything - he's my dad : )

We'll see if his advice works...the advice is solid, it's just my ability to implement it that's in question...let the hubby do it, give the guy a chance you say?!  Please see previous posts regarding my adult ADD/ADHD ...I have no patience whatsoever and if I don't get this project done - how am I going to get the rest of my house clean?!  That's right I have an issue...don't know it's official label but basically let my enitre house fall to shit while I wait to finish ONE project that is completely unrelated to the needs of my house and family....why do I need to finish the bathroom downstairs before I put away my laundry upstairs?  Don't really know, but there is a huge pile of it waiting for me to get over my mental hurdle and put it away....

Day off...zzzzzz....

I finally have a day off!  Ok, well it's not like a whole day...only 3 hours and 20 minutes - but they are MINE!!!!!
Went straight to McDonalds and pick up my super extra large boyfirend (Dr. Pepper) and actually went to 2 grocery stores - by myself!  In and out in less than 15 minutes each and no one asking for junk food and crap we don't need!

Gonna type for a tiny bit here and then head out to the thirft stores before monkey pick up time  : )  We have some pretty great ones here, but some of them have caught on that more people are utilzing them and are upping their prices and not offering the deals that they used to...but last week I got a one of those benches with the cushions on top and the areas underneath for baskets for $7.50!  It ddin't have the baskets and the cushion was only like an inch thick, but I have extra foam in the carport and just got my fantastic fabric deals a couple weeks ago....so I just need to decide which room it will live in and whether it's being painted black or white...

Wish me luck : )

D.I.Y has turned into D.I.Whine....

CRAP!!!!  So I "measured" the downstairs vanity, crammed in a corner...can't get a good read, but it's over 36 1/2" and ALL of the big box stores sell 31" wide and 37" wide vanity tops, so mine MUST be 37" right, RIGHT?!

100% WRONG - stupid effin' custom work done 38 YEARS AGO!!!!!!!  1/4" too big to fit : (
So, now I get to return the damn thing and start scrambling...no money in the budget for custom work especailly when I had a vanity/sink combo for $104 and now a decent sink will cost $50...

Found a Rustoleum product online that may work...supposed to be able to refinish bathtubs and tile...mine is cultured marble (so old and cheap custom work that's almost my age) so I hope it works...

Captain's log, Stardate 2.09.11

Still working on projects...adding 'em on before I completely finish current one...baby steps, I can't change everything about me at one and I kind of embrace my adult ADD.  Can't say that life with me is boring...unpredictable - yes...boring, not so much.

The hubby is even getting in on it a bit in the downstairs bathroom - he took out the 38 year old sink and vanity top while I was at work yesterday  (um...YUCK!) and it just popped right off so we don't have to buy a new cabinet!  Of course when I got home and checked out his handiwork I headed right out to the big orange box and started getting my supplies : )  Started painting last night, gonna strip off the old paint from my last trailer park budget inspired "remodel" of the cobinet (basically used the left over paint from the kitchen because it was there...added some black and it's just way too dark for such a tiny room)

Taking a break, jotting this down while my nook charges so I can have some "me" time before I pick up the 5 year old....ahhh, it's not exactly a Calgon moment, but it's mine!

so now he tells me....

Every year for the past 10 years it's the same thing...

Me:  Hey what should we do for the girl's birthday
Him:  I don't know
Me...run around, arrange EVERYTHING venue, invites, theme, our present to them (their b-days are 11 days apart) cards, wrapping paper...and then IT happens...2 1/2 days before the first one hits
Him:  So what going on for their Birthdays?
Me:  Build a Bear party on the 5th, then another one one the 19th
Him:  So then what? That's it, they build a stuffed animal and then they just all leave?!  No cake, no present opening?
Me:  Remember I told you that they aren't lisenced to have food there?  You HATE having people in the house and I hate Chuck E. Cheese?!  Remember?!?!?!!

So, now in additional to paying for 2 flippin Build a Bear parties, he wants to go out for ice cream!!!!  NO!!!!

yikes...
